About the society

# A professional home for longevity medicine in the UK.

UKSML is a clinician-led society advancing safe, evidence-informed longevity medicine in the UK through education, collaborative research, and policy engagement. It was founded in 2026 and is governed by a founding council of practising clinicians, researchers and policy leaders.

Our scientific position

## Evidence-informed. Not hype-driven.

We define longevity medicine in conservative, geroscience-aligned terms: optimising healthspan and delaying age-related functional decline. Our primary tools are lifestyle interventions, cardiometabolic risk factor optimisation, and early detection of age-related conditions.

We critically evaluate emerging diagnostics and therapies, and only recommend interventions when benefit, risk, and cost are supported by robust evidence. Where the evidence is thin, we say so.

Where we sit

## Complementary, not competitive.

UKSML works alongside existing professional bodies — the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine, the British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society, the British Geriatrics Society, and the British College of Functional Medicine. We occupy a distinct geroscience-focused domain rather than competing with them.

Longevity clinics are proliferating across the UK without consistent governance, evidence standards, or clinical frameworks. That gap is what the society exists to close.

The founding council

## Every member named, with affiliations declared.

The council sets the society's standards, reviews membership applications, and is accountable for its positions. It is drawn from NHS and independent practice, medical education, and health policy.

### Dr Mayoni Gooneratne

MBBS, BSc, MRCS, AFMCP · Founder and Chair

Former NHS colorectal and pelvic floor surgeon and a member of the Royal College of Surgeons since 2002. She spent four years in surgical research at the Blizzard Institute under Professor Sir Norman Williams, studying pelvic floor disorders. She now practises functional and longevity medicine with a focus on metabolic women's health and menopause, and is co-founder and vice chair of the British College of Functional Medicine.

### Dr Sam Botchey

Founding Board Member

A consultant in sport, exercise and musculoskeletal medicine, specialising in musculoskeletal pain and injury, ultrasound-guided interventions, and longevity-focused care. His practice combines detailed clinical assessment with bedside imaging and treatment strategies built around function, recovery and long-term outcomes. His patients range from professional athletes to people managing persistent pain, reduced mobility, or the physical cost of a demanding working life.

### Dr Rini Chatterjee

Founding Board Member

A UK-trained physician with 26 years of clinical experience, whose work has moved from expert generalist practice into metabolic and mitochondrial health. She focuses on biological coherence — how circadian, metabolic and mitochondrial systems interact to shape healthspan. Her work in built environment medicine examines how architecture, light and sensory design shape physiology.

### Dr Nikita Grover

Founding Board Member

A UK-trained physician with more than thirty years of clinical experience, including two decades as a GP partner. Her practice now centres on preventive, precision and longevity medicine, supported by further training in functional medicine, clinical nutrition and genomics. She has particular interests in women's health, metabolic health, and the physiology of recovery and performance, including work with elite athletes.

### Dr Anish Kotecha

FRCGP, FAcadMEd, GPwERLM, MIoL, ILM 5, MBBCh, BSc · Founding Board Member

A GP by background and Director of Medical Education at Learna, where he is programme director for its postgraduate certificate in Longevity Medicine. He has led curriculum development spanning geroscience, metabolic health, lifestyle medicine and digital health. His published work covers GLP-1 analogues in healthy ageing, nutritional supplementation, and biological ageing clocks.

### Dr Gina Schoeman

MBChB, MRCGP, MBA · Founding Board Member

Qualified in medicine at Stellenbosch University in 2001, with over twenty years of clinical experience spanning primary to tertiary care, emergency medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, and dermatology. She holds a diploma in dermatology from Cardiff University and the MRCGP. Her work focuses on functional and multi-system medicine, with a particular interest in hormone health across both sexes.

### Meghan Walker

Founding Board Member

A former naturopathic doctor and business strategist, and a long-standing entrepreneur across health, wellness and health technology. She is co-founder of Hiveality, founder of Clinician Business Labs, and author of Impact Medicine. Her expertise is in transformational care methodology and the intellectual property that allows clinicians to deliver it at scale.

Membership

## The founding cohort opens shortly.

We are recruiting our first hundred founding members — clinicians and researchers who will help shape the society's direction and contribute to its governance.
